The voluntary sector is the greatest provider of sporting opportunities in Conwy. To ensure their views and needs are recognised and addressed; the voluntary sector forum of Sport Conwy has been established.

What is Sport Conwy?

Sport Conwy is the voluntary forum for sports organisations in Conwy.  It is strengthened by its membership of over 70 clubs and organisations.  Members are welcomed from the voluntary, private and public sector, thus creating a truly holistic approach to sport in Conwy.

Why Should We Join?

  • INFORMATION

If you want to know what is happening in Conwy, our regular mail outs are the best way of staying informed.  We issue information on grants, courses, first aid, sporting issues etc.

  • DISCOUNTED COACH EDUCATION

Courses on child protection, prevention and treatment of injuries, finding the funds, first aid etc. are organised throughout the year.  Members are entitled to send as many participants as they like, all at a preferential rate.

  • PUBLICITY

Members are featured in the Sports Club Directory (the only one in Conwy) and have the opportunity to contribute to the regularly produced STOPWATCH newsletter, which is circulated throughout the county and beyond.  You can also be featured on our website, www.sportconwy.org.uk which is fast becoming a comprehensive site for sport in the area.

  • REFERENCE MATERIALS

Sport Conwy produce a number of publications, which are useful for members such as leaflets on Child Protection, Money for Sport and a Directory of Sports Medicine Practitioners.

  • TALENTED ATHLETES

If you have athletes in your organisation at a national level, we can help them.  Sport Conwy are part of the North Wales Gold Card Scheme which supports North Wales' top athletes by providing free use of 56 county run leisure centres to help with their training.  Access is also granted to some university and college facilities as well as 23 Golf Clubs.  Additional benefits are constantly being negotiated such as discounted physio, sports science support and discounted equipment. 

Personal Development Grants of up to £200 per year are also on offer to help athletes that are competing at a North Wales/Regional Level achieve more in their sport.

  • SPECIAL EVENTS

Throughout the year, a number of events are organised which could be of benefit to your organisation, for example:-

NEED MONEY? Come to the Social and Grant Awareness Evening.

SPECIAL EVENTS - these are organised subject to the content of the work programme.  Your club is welcome to offer any suggestions that could help increase participation in sport or physical activity.

  • REPRESENTATION

If you feel that your voice is not being heard, find strength in numbers and be represented by Sport Conwy.  We are the first rungs on the ladder if you wish to voice concerns or raise ideas with the Local Authority, Sports Council for Wales, National Governing Bodies of Sport, or the Welsh Assembly.  Vice versa, public bodies recognise Sport Conwy as the representative body and all consultation whether it be spending Lottery Money or 'consultation', is directed through us.

  • OTHER BENEFITS

20% discount for members when ordering sports goods from Evans of Longton Ltd. 

10% discount at Stapeleys mini bus hire, Mochdre.

Two tickets per organisation for the annual Conwy Sports Awards evening. 

Free, independent advice available - Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm.

    There are many sources of grant funding available and the Sports Development Section endeavours to help Sports Clubs and associations access them.

    The six authorities of North Wales are helping their sportspeople go for gold through a scheme that is unique to the whole of Great Britain. The North Wales Gold Card offers sportspeople that are competing at a national level free use of local authority and some college/university training facilities throughout the whole of North Wales, and additional benefits include free access to golf clubs for golfers, sport science support, discounted equipment and clothing.

  • Personal Development Grant Scheme 28/11/2005

    This award is available to sportspeople who are competing in their sport at a regional or North Wales level who have the potential to succeed. This grant scheme is administered by Sport Conwy, and offers financial support of up to £200.
