Calling all parents of 13 to 16 year old children - Volunteers needed!

Cocktails

Volunteers aged 13 to 16 are required to help Trading Standards Officers enforce legislation relating to the under age sales of age-restricted products such as cigarettes, alcohol and fireworks.

Test Purchase exercises are the only effective way Trading Standards can check to ensure traders are not illegally selling goods to under age young people.

Young volunteers, working with Trading Standards Staff, visit retailer's premises and attempt to buy age-restricted goods. Rigorous National Guidelines are followed to ensure the safety and well being of the volunteers.

Volunteers must be representative of their age and freely willing to participate, with the permission of their parents or guardians.

What Volunteers Do

  • The young person will be asked to enter shops to attempt to purchase an age-restricted product.
  • They are asked to tell the truth at all times.
  • The young person will not be asked to work in areas where they are likely to be recognised.
  • The young person will gain valuable work experience, which will be recognised in their 'Record of Achievement'.
If your child would like to help Trading Standards during occasional school holidays, weekends or evenings please contact Dawn for further details - 01492 575706. -dawn.bamford@conwy.gov.uk
