Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (GTAA)

Summary (optional)
start content

As part of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 local authorities have a duty to undertake Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessments (GTAAs) to assess the need for sites within their areas.

The assessments are undertaken every five years and this year Conwy worked in partnership with Denbighshire County Council to assess the need for sites within both counties. The current needs assessment was approved by Welsh Government in March 2017.

The 2017 assessment identified a need for:

  • Residential site. No immediate need in Conwy but for the purpose of further investigation a future need of one pitch in the next 2 to 5 years has been included in this assessment.
  • Transit site – a need for 7 transit pitches has been identified.

If you would like more information regarding the GTAA please contact the Housing Strategy Team on 01492 576274 or email
