Once approved as a Foster Carer for Conwy (in addition to the support available) you will have access to a wide variety of training to enable you to build upon your knowledge, skills and confidence. Conwy’s Training Department work closely with foster carers and social workers to deliver a Training Plan which is aimed at providing the most up to date information and guidance to foster carers. We are also committed to foster carers personal and professional development, providing regular training and the opportunity to study for formal qualifications (including a QCF Level 3 Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People).
“The training provided including specialist training, meets all our training requirements to enable us to meet the needs of the children in our care” (Foster Carer Questionnaire, January 2015)
“Training is excellent !” (Foster Carer Questionnaire, January 2015)
We will provide you with opportunities that will continually increase your knowledge, skills and confidence. The training we provide will keep you up to date with national issues surrounding children and young people and also benefit your own development as a carer. Our aim is to help prepare you for overcoming the possible challenges you may face in fostering. As well as learning new skills through these courses you will also be able to express your views, opinions and experiences helping us in turn to respond to your needs.
As well as learning new skills you will also find mutual support from other carers. We want to increase your own professionalism as a carer and ensure that you feel confident to handle new situations. No matter what your knowledge and experience is, we’ll ensure that our training courses and learning materials are accessible, relevant and compatible.
Our Foster Carers tell us these are the things that we do well which are really important to them.
