Once approved as a Conwy Foster Carer you will be allocated a Supervising Social Worker to provide support and guidance to you in your new role. Your Supervising Social Worker will be a key source of knowledge, help and advice on an ongoing basis.  For out of office hours service you will also have access to the Emergency Duty Team (EDT) for emergency support and guidance.

"If things aren't going too well, we can call and someone will try and help." (Foster Carer Questionnaire, January 2015)

In addition to a supervising social worker you will also work closely with the Child Care social worker. An effective "teamwork" approach is one of the ways in which Conwy aims to provide the best outcomes possible to maintain children in Conwy close to their family, friends and school.

"Support when needed is excellent and my supervising social worker is excellent." (Foster Carer Questionnaire, January 2015)

Support to Conwy Foster Carers is also offered by a range of support services including sessional activities for children during weekends and school holidays, a Family Intervention Team and Therapeutic Social Workers. Services are available to support Foster Carers as well as supporting the looked after child and young person either with a specific short term need or longer term support e.g. recovering from a bereavement or understanding parental misuse of drugs or alcohol.

"Taking a holistic approach to the welfare of children where all involved are working together for the good of the child." (Foster Carer Questionnaire, January 2015)

You'll also be able to meet up with other Conwy foster carers and share ideas and solutions at regular support groups (Locality Groups) where carers can talk confidentially and offer each other advice and reassurance.

"Always being there in times of need and support in difficult times" (Foster Carer Questionnaire, January 2015)

Family Forum is another avenue of support, however this is more informal and an opportunity to socialise and have fun with fellow carers.

All of our foster carers receive annual membership to the Fostering Network, who are the leading national charity providing information about fostering,  giving support and advice to its members, and campaigning to improve foster care.

Foster Carers for Conwy and your family are supplied with a FFIT leisure pass enabling you all to access great reductions on a wide variety of sports activities and facilities, including Swimming pools, fitness suites and classes. Fostering families also often get opportunities to attend bigger events in Eirias Park such as the annual music event 'Access All Eirias'. We also have Celebration events for Looked After Children every two years which are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the successes of our Foster Carers and the children and young people in their care.
