Universal Credit is a new single payment for people who are looking for work or in receipt of a low income. It will help claimants and their families to become more independent and will simplify the benefits system by bringing together a range of working-age benefits into a single monthly payment.
Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction is designed to help people on a low income to pay their Rent and/or Council Tax. Anybody who pays rent or Council Tax can claim these benefits. These include; pensioners, sick or unemployed people and single parents. You may also qualify for assistance even if you work and your income is below a certain level.
If you are a private tenant renting property or room from a private landlord and you are on a low income, you may be able to claim and receive Local Housing Allowance (LHA). In this section you will find out more, including how it's paid.
