Training
Conwy Employment Hub was successful in securing funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to deliver a range of training initiatives, helping people across the county to gain skills, experience and confidence:
Pathways into Employment
The Pathways programme focused on upskilling individuals to help them enter the job market or move into better-quality employment within sectors facing local labour shortages.
A total of 260 participants attended a wide variety of courses, including:
- CACHE Level 3 Teaching Assistant
- Sport and Leisure
- Tourism and Hospitality
- Construction
- Security
Most of these courses included a valuable work experience element. Additional sessions focused on personal development and workplace readiness, covering topics such as:
- Essential Digital Skills
- Mental Health First Aid Awareness
Participants were typically individuals who were already work-ready or close to being work-ready, including those in unstable or seasonal employment looking to secure more sustainable roles.
Assisted Community Employment (ACE)
In partnership with Crest, the Hub delivered the ACE programme - offering 12-week paid work placements across sectors such as retail, driving, and refurbishment.
Alongside hands-on work experience, participants also received personalised support, including:
- One-to-one and group employability training
- CV development and job search guidance
- Skills training tailored to individual needs
Three ACE schemes were delivered over the year, supporting 39 individuals to take a positive next step toward long-term employment. Following their 12-week placement, 16 participants moved into full-time work, 6 into volunteering, and 1 into full-time education.
Targeted Employability Numeracy Support (TENS)
The TENS programme was designed to help adults improve their numeracy skills and gain confidence using maths in everyday life and the workplace.
The Hub worked closely with key stakeholders and delivery partners including Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, HMP Berwyn, the Probation Service, Crest Cooperative, Housing and Homelessness Teams, Family Centres, and Abergele Foodbank to reach those most in need.
Course topics included:
- Workshops for parents supporting children with maths homework
- Vocational maths (e.g. welding and plumbing)
- Everyday life skills (e.g. budgeting, payslips, and rent)
- Confidence building with numbers
- "Cost of Living" and "Budgeting for Life" workshops
- Numbers into Work programme
102 people engaged with the TENS programme, and 70 went on to complete a numeracy-focused course or activity. The small-group learning approach ensured participants benefited from a more relaxed, supportive environment with increased access to one-to-one tuition.
