Dear Prospective Candidate,

Thank you for taking an interest in the role of Head of Children, Families and Safeguarding Services.Conwy County Borough Council is an award winning local authority and excellent employer which lives by its vision of being a ‘Progressive County, Creating Opportunity’.

We are continually seeking to improve what we do, modernise the way we work and seek new opportunities.

We are able to do so because we have a strong and respected Social Care Service, which this role will be key to developing and delivering.

This vacancy has arisen owing to the current post holder’s retirement. This is a great opportunity for a motivational and creative leader to continue our journey, modernising the way we work, and striving for excellence.

You will be an excellent leader, with substantial post qualification experience, who: finds solutions; has the courage to do the right thing even if not necessarily popular or easy; seeks out opportunities; wants to contribute at the highest level of the Council; and has a passion for the job, embracing its importance in improving the lives of the people of Conwy and North Wales.

The post is responsible for delivering a range of important and vital services, which include:

  • Family Support and Intervention - managed care and support
  • Looked After Children - Fostering and Adoption
  • Vulnerable People - Mental Health, Substance Misuse and Care Leavers
  • Safeguarding - Adults and Children
  • Youth Justice Service - prevention, community and custodial sentences.

Experience as a leader of people and teams would be very important for success and whilst a background with local government in Wales would be a distinct advantage, it is not a prerequisite, as we are equally interested in appointing someone with the attributes mentioned above, who has an understanding of the Welsh political context and who will fit well into our team.

To be successful in this role you will be an excellent communicator, have first class relationship management skills, a high level of political awareness and judgment, be highly resilient under pressure and recognise the value of teamwork.

We have an exciting and ambitious agenda; come and join us to enjoy playing a key role achieving success for our residents and visitors.
