Course aims and objectives:

Aim:

  • To provide an overview of how a governing body works, together with the key roles of a governor, Headteacher, Chair and Clerk
  • New governors will be expected to complete induction training as determined by Welsh Government Regulations

This session will cover those areas required under the legislation:

  • The different and complementary roles of governors, including role of Chair and Clerk
  • Key roles and responsibilities of governing bodies
  • How to be an effective governor including the difference between governance and management
  • Where to access further support and training

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Ensure governors understand their role and responsibilities for improving school performance
  • Understand the boundaries between governance and management
  • Understand the protocols
  • To improve the effectiveness of governing bodies
