The Council can provide loans for eligible property owners to bring empty properties back into use as homes and/or, for owners who need financial assistance make their property warm, safe or secure.

If you need improve to your property, you can apply for an interest free loan. There are two interest free schemes available – Home Improvement Loan and Property Improvement Loan.

Home Improvement Loan

The Home Improvement Loan is an interest free loan for owner occupiers, landlords, charities and developers. The work completed has to make the property warm, safe and/or secure.

The minimum loan amount is £1,000, up to a maximum of £35,000 per property.  All loans are secured. The Council have to secure a first or second charge against the land registry title.

There will be a £500 administration fee.

Please note that the loan is discretionary and an offer of a loan cannot be guaranteed until the applicant has received a formal notice of approval.

Property Improvement Loan

The Property Improvement Loan scheme (funded by Welsh Government) also provides interest free loans to fund the renovation or improvement of property that has been empty for 6 months or more, including non-residential property, into new residences.
