The Summer Reading Challenge is the UK’s biggest free reading for pleasure event aimed at children aged 4-12. It is run by The Reading Agency in partnership with the UK public library network.
This year The Reading Agency have launched a digital Summer Reading Challenge for the first time in response to the pandemic.
Summer Reading Challenge Website
This allows children to log on to the Silly Squad website where they can:
- complete challenges
- set their reading goal
- find book recommendations
- take part in games and competitions
- access fun resources
1,493 Conwy children took part in the Summer Reading Challenge in 2019. Conwy Libraries are passionate about keeping children reading. Despite current restrictions due to Covid-19 we are still committed to delivering the Summer Reading Challenge this year.
We are now offering a Call and Collect service from our 10 libraries and our mobile library. Parents/carers can contact us and we will prepare a collection of books/audiobooks based on their child’s reading choices which we will issue to their library card and place in a bag.
We will arrange a collection slot at your chosen library to pick up your books.
Each child will receive a Silly Squad bag containing a folder, stickers, pencil and wristband when they join the Challenge.
