Thank you for visiting and being willing to give us your ideas. We need your help as we shape plans to make Llandudno a better place to live, work and visit. By upgrading and creating new walking and cycling routes we aim to make active travel the normal way to get around for local journeys. This cuts down unnecessary traffic and helps families get about safely and sustainably.

Wales is unique in having legislation which requires councils to promote and improve sustainable travel. The Active Travel (Wales) Act sets out a clear ambition to put walking and cycling centre stage for local journeys. To get this right, it’s crucial for local people to be involved in the conversation. So that more people feel they can choose walking, wheeling or cycling instead of the car for short local journeys.

About this project

The project focuses on Llandudno, Craig Y Don area from Nant y Gamar Road, Roumania Drive, Queens Road, Balfour Road and Clarence Drive to Clarence Crescent. You can also tell us about things outside of these places, but our main focus is to improve areas where there is the greatest need for change and highest potential for more people to choose active travel.

We have received grant funding from the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund for investigation, design and public engagement work. The route was chosen because it’s already used by people travelling short distances regularly: to and from schools, leisure and community centres, employment sites, local shopping and transport interchanges.

Proposed works include:

  • A parallel ‘zebra’ crossing on Queens Road
  • Upgraded parallel ‘zebra’ crossing at Clarence Crescent
  • Extra crossing places for pedestrians, especially at Ysgol Gogarth and Ysgol Craig Y Don
  • Widened footways and shared use paths
  • ‘Quiet Street’ zones and extra road markings
  • Traffic calming on Nant y Gamar Rd, Balfour Rd and Roumania Drive
  • Flat top raised crossing points at most junctions with side roads adjoining the route

What happens next?

All the feedback we receive from this consultation will be carefully analysed and considered as we draw up a final design. We will then apply for further funding to carry out construction, so it’s really important the design reflects what local people think.
