Target Group - Foster Carers, Children’s Residential Care Workers, Social Workers, Youth Justice Officers, Education Social Workers, Family Support Staff, Youth Offending Team & Youth Workers.


Overview:

This course will increase participants awareness of key themes on LGBT+ including:

  • coming out
  • relationships
  • families
  • LGBT+ resources, including social and support groups

The course will include an overview of key equalities legislation, explore the barriers faced by LGBT+ communities and provide an opportunity to embed the course themes into practice with Children and Young People.

9.30am Inclusion Session:

  • Welcome and Housekeeping
  • Learning Agreement
  • Activity LGBT+ Bingo
  • Overview of the law, duties and responsibilities
  • Language and definitions

11.15am Break

11.30am Access and Engagement with LGBT+ Communities:

  • Research on the experiences of LGBT+
  • Barriers faced by LGBT+ Children & Young People accessing services
  • Best practice guidelines to support staff to improve the experience of LGBT+ people

12.30pm Lunch Break

1.00pm Transgender Awareness:

  • Working with Trans Children & Young People
  • Legal, social, cultural, medical and historical perspectives on being Trans

2.00pm Family and relationships:

  • Making referrals

2.30pm Evaluations & Close
