Budget 2020/21

Members of Conwy County Borough Council have today [05/03/20] set the Council Tax and Budget for 2020/21.

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Sam Rowlands, introduced the report to the meeting of the Council.

He said, "The budget for 2020/21 has been one of the most difficult budgets to balance for the Local Authority due to significant levels of uncertainty through the year.

“Since October, we’ve set a clear path for a combination of budget reductions and a Council Tax increase.

“It’s a credit to our services, staff and Members that we have the ability to set this balanced budget, which includes a significant number of savings across the Council to allow us to deal with increased pressures of costs and demand of over £11m.

“This budget includes an extra £3.7m to support our schools and further prioritisation of areas such as social care, where we are seeing increased demand.

“I believe that the proposals set out in the report set us on a course for a more sustainable financial position for the future, whilst recognising the challenges that continue to lie ahead.”

The Council approved the Budget and set the Council Tax for 2020/21.

Councillors supported the recommendation that Conwy County Borough Council’s part of the Band D Council Tax for 2020/21 be £1343.86.

That’s an increase of £63.38 for the year - equivalent to £1.22 extra per week.
