Conwy Civic Hall Preferred Bidder
Conwy’s Cabinet Members have chosen a preferred bidder for the redevelopment of the Civic Hall in Conwy.
On 14 July, Councillors looked at the outline proposals submitted by a shortlist of bidders who had been preparing their cases to take on the important task of redeveloping the iconic Civic Hall building.
A decision was made to appoint one candidate to be invited to make a formal pre-planning application submission for the redevelopment of the building.
Cllr Goronwy Edwards, Cabinet Member for Economic Development said: “Our aim is to support regeneration and add to the quality tourism offer in Conwy with a sustainable development. We have a duty to make sure we make the right decision.”
“The Civic Hall is currently vacant, and the cost to keep the empty building secure is significant, so it’s important that we find a new use for the building. And while an early financial receipt would be welcome, there are other considerations that need to be taken into account, because this is a significant waterside location in a World Heritage Site.”
The proposals for the Conwy Civic Hall site will be subject to all of the usual planning processes.
The preferred bidder selected by Cabinet is Nautical Point Ltd with a proposal to develop a mixed use scheme. The bidder is in the process of completing all due diligence and aims to present the proposed scheme to the public for comment in the near future.
