Conwy Volunteer receives the Diana Award 2021

A volunteer with Conwy Youth Service has been awarded the prestigious Diana Award in recognition of an outstanding contribution to society.

The Diana Award is a charity set up set up in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales and her belief that young people have the power to change the world. It is given to young people aged 9-25 years to recognise their social action or humanitarian work.

Carwyn Williams, 24 from Llandudno, was recognised via the 2021 Virtual Diana Award Ceremony (Roll of Honour) broadcast on The Diana Award YouTube Channel.

Since 2015, Carwyn has been an integral part of the Peer Education Project and the Healthy Image Project, a project that promotes healthy lifestyles and physical activity to young people in Conwy. As part of the initiative, Carwen has helped to run sports sessions and activities at youth clubs, schools, in the community and at events.

Through volunteering, Carwyn has received the St David Award, StreetGames ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award, and a Conwy Sports Award.

Carwyn has been involved in the youth interim committee meetings as well as consultation events to have his say about youth work in his area. He has always been on hand to help others and his volunteering contributions over the years have had a positive impact on the lives of so many young people in Conwy.

Cllr Julie Fallon, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “I’d like to congratulate Carwyn on this well-deserved Award. It’s so pleasing to see young people benefitting from the activities and initiatives run by Conwy Youth Service.

In addition, this award was received during Youth Work Week in Wales. A week thataims to promote a wider understanding of and support for youth work across Wales.

We’re particularly proud of volunteers like Carwyn who give back so much to their communities and create the right environment to help young people gain confidence and equip themselves for the future.”

Carwyn added, “I feel honoured to have won The Diana Award as she was a true inspiration for young people to have a bright future.”
