Former Civic Offices Sold

Conwy County Borough Council has confirmed that its former premises, the Civic Offices in Colwyn Bay, have been sold to a local business.

Conwy County Borough Council vacated the site (and a number of other locations) when staff moved to Coed Pella in December 2018.

Part of the Civic site was sold in August 2021 for a housing development, whilst the Civic building itself was put on the market at the end of 2021 after an earlier sale fell through.

The Council has now sold the building and its curtilage to local business Parc Eirias Hotel Ltd.

Leader, Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, said: “When the sale was discussed earlier this year, councillors were clear that any proposals should enhance the site and be an asset to the regeneration of Colwyn Bay, and they were supportive of this site becoming a hotel.  As such, we’re pleased that the buyers know the local market and will bring their experience to this project, we wish them every success and look forward to seeing their proposals come to fruition.”

Savills acted for the Council in the sale of both sites, which was led by Associate, Jay Duffield, in Savills Manchester office. Duffield commented: “We’re very pleased to secure a sale of the Civic Centre on behalf of the Council, which we’re confident will ensure an attractive and sustainable redevelopment of the Grade II listed property.”

Proposals put forward for the site by the new owner will be subject to the usual planning process.
