New Contractor for Children's Assessment Unit

Wynne Construction Limited is to be awarded the contract to build the new Sub Regional Children’s Assessment Unit in Colwyn Bay.

Conwy’s Cabinet agreed to award the contract at a meeting on 9 May 2023.

The new unit, which will be named Bwthyn y Ddôl, will be a place where children can be safely cared for, supported and supervised by a residential team, and where children and their parents and carers can meet an on-site therapeutic team.

Work to clear the site took place in 2020, but construction has been delayed due difficulties in the construction industry.

Cllr Liz Roberts, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Safeguarding explains, “The construction industry has been under immense pressure for some time, and unfortunately this had a direct impact on our project.

“We’re now delighted to be able announce we’re appointing a new contractor and pleased to see this exciting and worthwhile project progressing again.”

The project is a partnership between Conwy County Borough Council, Denbighshire County Council and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.  The project is funded through the Welsh Government’s Integrated Care Fund (ICF) and Housing Care Fund (HCF).

Once the legal processes have been completed, Wynne Construction Limited expect to move on site in June and the work to construct Bwthyn y Ddôl is expected to take about 14 months.
