Support for Swim Wales campaign

Cllr Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure is lending his support to the national Save Our Pools campaign.

Swim Wales is calling for facilities to be protected by urging the Welsh Government to recognise the particular vulnerability of swimming pools and leisure centres by providing a ring-fenced package of financial aid above and beyond the Final Local Government Settlement to ensure pools remain open.

Cllr Aaron Wynne said, “Although our pools in Conwy are not currently at risk, I think it’s important to join forces and support the industry and these important facilities across the country.”

Cllr Wynne said, “As portfolio holder for leisure I understand the importance of these facilities to our communities, and also know that high energy costs affect these facilities acutely.

“Swimming pools and leisure services more generally play a key role in keeping people active and healthy, reducing the burden on health services and social care.

“We can’t ignore the impact of ever rising energy costs, that’s why I’m supporting this campaign. I urge individuals and swimming clubs across the region to get involved.”
