Welcome to your Vote Week

This week is Welcome to Your Vote Week.

Organised by the Electoral Commission, Welcome to Your Vote Week aims to start the conversation with young people about democracy and politics.

This year’s theme is ‘Our Democracy’ and Conwy County Borough Council has invited schools to get involved to help show young people that politics and democracy impacts everything around them. From how long they stay in education to the rules of renting, from 5G availability to how often bins are collected.

The campaign is aimed at 14 to 16 years old, as well as older teenagers in schools and colleges, and aims to increase voter registration and participation in Welsh Government and local elections.

Rhun ap Gareth, Returning Officer for Conwy, said: “More people can vote in Wales than ever before. 16 and 17 year olds can vote in Senedd and local council elections. It doesn’t matter where they were born or what their nationality is, as long as they are a resident of Wales.

“The Electoral Commission has produced free resources for schools, teachers and learners to provide young people with the knowledge and understanding they need to create change in their communities. This will give them confidence to vote, and to understand that their vote matters.”

Welcome to Your Vote Week 2023 runs from Monday 30 January to Sunday 5 February.
