Improving digital connectivity
Improving digital connectivity is one of the highest priorities for communities in Conwy County. Particularly those living in rural areas to support economic development, education, social care and even long-term solutions to healthcare provision.
Digital Conwy Board
There are several programmes and projects which are focused on improving digital connectivity in Wales. The board managing this here is called the Digital Conwy Board.
The LFFN Programme will stimulate commercial investment in full fibre networks across the whole of the UK, including rural and urban locations using strategies, which encourage private investment and make sustainable commercial deployments viable.
LFFN Challenge Fund
The LFFN Challenge Fund is provided for projects that create the conditions to stimulate more commercial investment to deliver more gigabit capable connectivity, and to maximise the availability and benefit of gigabit capable broadband services to public sector, business and residential users and to improve commercial investment conditions in local areas for example to improve the business case for the market to provide more gigabit capable broadband.
Helping our economy to thrive
LFFN will create a local digital infrastructure for the economy to thrive and for Citizens to have the connectivity they need in both town and rural areas using the funding available from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).
Proposed sites
Proposed sites for North Wales have been submitted to DCMS. In Conwy these include GP surgeries and Community and Town Council locations. Notification of when and where site surveys are to be planned and subsequent installation instigated are due to be released shortly.
The Regional project is being seen as the model with which to roll out across the UK and is being managed with quality milestones based on a timetable of site surveys followed by installation coving a 2 year period ending March 2021.
