We are all responsible for the safety of the most vulnerable members of our society.
Everybody has the right to be safe, no matter who they are or what their circumstances are. Safeguarding is about protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse or neglect.
Keeping children safe
Children should live in a safe place and be protected from harm. We work with the Welsh Government and other organisations to make sure that all children:
- Have a flying start in life
- Can access education and learning
- Are as healthy as possible
- Are free from abuse, victimisation and exploitation
- Can access play, leisure, sporting and cultural activities
- Are listened to and treated with respect
- Have their race and culture recognised and respected
- Have a safe home and community where they can grow
- Are not held back by poverty
Keeping adults safe
Adults at risk of abuse or exploitation are often elderly and frail, live on their own in the community, or in a care home. They may not have much family support and rely on other people to take care of them or make decisions on their behalf. They are often people with physical or learning disabilities, or mental health needs.
We support vulnerable individuals to protect them from abuse or other types of exploitation. We also help them to have control over their lives and make their own decisions.
If you are worried about the safety and welfare of a vulnerable adult, please tell us.
