Beware of Council Tax scams

Beware of Council Tax scams

Conwy’s Council Tax team has received reports of an email scam targeting residents and is reminding everyone to stay vigilant.

If you receive a telephone call, text message or email claiming to be from Conwy County Borough Council and telling you that you have a credit on your Council Tax account:

• Do not click on any links, open any attachments or call any phone numbers provided in the message.
• Do not reply or provide any personal, financial or login details.
• Report the message as junk or phishing and delete it.

It’s also a good idea to remind elderly relatives, friends and neighbours to be cautious with their personal or bank details.

And remember, Conwy residents can get free help and advice about Council Tax and Benefits directly from the Council by calling 01492 576607, emailing counciltax@conwy.gov.uk, or visiting www.conwy.gov.uk/counciltax.

If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, please report it to trading.standards@conwy.gov.uk.
