Following publication of the Statutory Notice on 24th June 2026 and the subsequent objection period, Conwy County Borough Council Cabinet considered the Objection Report and all objections received in relation to the proposal.
Having considered all relevant information, Cabinet determined on 6th October 2026 to:
Approve the proposal to discontinue Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan with effect from 31st August 2027
In reaching its decision, Cabinet had regard to:
- The School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013;
- The School Organisation Code;
- The Objection Report;
- The Educational Impact Assessment;
- The Community Impact Assessment;
- The Welsh Language Impact Assessment;
- The Equality Impact Assessment; and
- All objections and representations received.

At the meeting on 11 November 2025, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet granted approval to commence a consultation to consider the potential closure of Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan.
This period of consultation will last from 28 November 2025 to 9 January 2026.
The Council will carefully consider any comments and observations made in writing by this date.
As a result of the consultation the Council may decide not to proceed any further with the proposal or to go ahead with the proposal or a modified version of it. Any formal proposal would be set out and published in the form of a public statutory notice.
The Council has the powers to propose expansions or closures of schools. If proposals are published following this period of consultation, there then follows a statutory 28-day period during which further representations and formal objections can be made.
Any responses during the Consultation will not be regarded as formal objections. To have responses considered as statutory objections they must be made in writing or by email within the 28-day objection period.
Whether or not objections are received within the statutory period, the proposal will be determined by the Authority at the end of the 28-day objection period. Conwy Cabinet is expected to determine this publication in March 2026.
Conwy County Borough Council will publish a consultation report for Cabinet consideration in the spring school term.

At their meeting on 9 June 2026 Conwy County Borough Council Cabinet approved that the proposal to discontinue (close) Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan be moved forward to the statutory notice stage.
This notice marks the start of a 28-day Objection Period from 24 June 2026 to 21 July 2026 and sets out the address to which objections in writing may be submitted.
Whether or not objections are received within the statutory period; the proposal will be determined by the Authority after the 28-day objection period.
