Celebration to Mark Reopening of Llandudno's Historic Colonnade

Conwy County Borough Council is delighted to announce the official reopening of the Llandudno Colonnade, following a programme of restoration works to safeguard and enhance this much‑loved historic landmark.
Thanks to a joint investment by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and the Welsh Government Brilliant Basics Fund, major restoration works have been undertaken at the structure.
To mark the completion of the works, a public celebration event will take place on Friday, March 20th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at the Colonnade on Llandudno’s iconic promenade.
The event will feature a ribbon‑cutting ceremony with invited officials, accompanied by live entertainment from local performers including artist Dave Sharp, the Linzi Grace School of Dance, and the Llandudno Swing Band. In recognition of the Colonnade’s 1930s heritage, the celebration will have an optional 1930s smart dress theme, inviting attendees to reflect the era in honour of the site’s history.
The Llandudno Colonnade has been a defining feature of the promenade since its construction in the 1930s. The recent works were undertaken to preserve its character, improve safety and accessibility, and ensure that the Colonnade can continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors for generations to come. The Council has worked closely with Mostyn Estates throughout the project to ensure the Colonnade’s historic character was protected.
Cllr Sharon Doleman, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy and Communications, said: “The Colonnade is an important part of Llandudno’s heritage and identity, and I’m delighted to see it restored to its former elegance.
“These improvements ensure that this treasured landmark can be enjoyed for many years to come, and I’m thrilled that we’re able to celebrate its reopening with the local community. My thanks go to everyone involved in the project.”
Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens said: “We are directly backing our communities with investment to make them even better places to live and work.
“As well as investing in the restoration of the Colonnade, the UK Government has committed £20 million to Llandudno as part of the new Pride in Place programme to drive regeneration and create jobs and growth in the area.”
The celebration is free to attend and open to all, offering an opportunity for residents, businesses, and visitors to come together and mark the renewed future of this historic structure.
A brief, temporary road closure will be in place on Alex Munro Way from 11:00am to 7:00pm to support the set up and safe running of the event.
