Colwyn Bay welcomes international women's rugby
Wales Senior Women took on USA on Saturday (30 September) in Stadiwm CSM in Colwyn Bay.
Wales 38
USA 18
Wales are sixth in the world rankings and qualified for the new WXV1 by finishing third in the 2023 Six Nations, with wins over Ireland, Scotland and Italy.
Wales Head Coach Ioan Cunningham said “We are all looking forward and excited to be back together and to build on what we achieved in the Six Nations. The Welsh public’s support was a key part of our journey and we welcomed that support again in north Wales”
With a brand new £700,000 pitch investment earlier this year, Stadiwm CSM can now offer more consistent pitch usage over the winter period when many pitches are waterlogged.
The hard wearing nature of the new pitch surface will also allow for sport festivals with repeated daily usage throughout the year, which the old surface couldn’t deliver.
Geraint John, Community Director for WRU said “The £110,000 contribution from our WRU Facilities Grant, is our largest ever funding award. The investment is testament to our continued commitment to developing rugby talent and delivering quality rugby action in north Wales.
Cllr Aaron Wynne, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure for Conwy County Borough Council said “We’re delighted to welcome Wales and USA Senior Women’s Teams to Stadiwm CSM this autumn. Rugby is important to our region both economically and to inspire and develop Welsh talent. It also offers a great day out for our local residents”.
