Lôn Yr Adar Officially Opened in Community Celebration

Lôn Yr Adar Officially Opened

Sunday 13 September saw members of the local community in Glan Conwy gather to celebrate the official opening of Lôn Yr Adar.

The new path and bridge forms part of the wider Active Travel route and was funded by UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund and delivered by Conwy County Borough Council. By improving walking and cycling connections, reducing the need to use the busy Black Cat Roundabout crossing, and providing better access to local amenities, it aims to help create a safer, healthier and more connected community.

As part of the event the Glan Conwy Community Choir “Cor Pobl Llan” and Alistair James were on hand to entertain the attendees before and after the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Cllr Julie Fallon, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council: "I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved here. Lôn yr Adar has been built to benefit the local community in Glan Conwy and the surrounding area, and with local children playing a role in naming the bridge it makes it extra special. I’m excited to see the difference it will make for future generations.”

After the ceremony, everyone was given the opportunity to walk along the path and talk to the project team who delivered the project.

Claire Hughes MP said: "It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of the bridge and to see the difference it will make to our local community. This investment by the UK Government has created an important link that will make it easier and safer for people of all ages to reach Llandudno Junction and travel onwards to Conwy and beyond. So, whether they’re getting to work, school, shopping or the cinema - they’ll be able to leave the car behind."

Cllr Sharon Doleman, Ward Member for Glan Conwy said: "I was delighted to join everyone for the official opening of Lôn yr Adar. This has been many years in the making, and I am incredibly proud to see it become a reality. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved and will provide lasting benefits for future generations."

Cllr Mike Priestley, Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads and Infrastructure said: “This project gives people a safer, scenic way to walk and cycle, and takes pressure off one of the busiest junctions in the area. I'd like to thank everyone who worked on this project, and everyone in the community who helped shape it.”

The path is now open for public use.
