CCTV service in Colwyn Bay

Conwy County Borough Council’s CCTV Service has been awarded £375,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to continue to tackle environmental offences, including fly tipping, vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Previous funding was used to add twelve mobile CCTV cameras to the network. Working with communities, these cameras can be moved to hot spots to help tackle issues that are most affecting specific neighbourhoods.

The new funding will mean the Council can recruit additional CCTV operators, and support the work of two Public Protection enforcement officers to carry out investigations focusing on repeat offenders and problem areas.

Cllr Geoff Stewart, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood, Environment and Regulatory Services said: “I’m really excited we have been able to draw this funding to enable us to tackle the issues right at the heart of our communities. The team will also be using this time to focus on the commercialisation of the CCTV Service in order to protect this service in future years.

Cllr Goronwy Edwards, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Transport and Facilities said: “I’m particularly passionate about this project and the benefits it will provide the people of Conwy. Clear benefits of effective CCTV monitoring includes protection of physical amenities, community infrastructure and open spaces, meaning they remain safe and pleasant spaces for the people of Conwy to enjoy."
