Description

We call on Conwy Council to instruct Arriva Buses to reinstate with immediate effect the full 26 bus service i.e. the hourly service which provided 11 buses per day instead of the reduced 3 hourly service with just 4 buses per day. For residents of the Great Orme this is a vital lifeline, in particular for those who are elderly and also those with disabilities which prevent them from driving. It is also used by school children to get to and from school safely. The last bus is now too late for those coming home from school and for those who work in town until 5.00pm to catch a bus home. To reduce this service during the winter months is a completely unreasonably and heartless decision, which has been made without any thought to the impact on local residents. It discriminates against those with disabilities, and takes no account of the detrimental impact that it will have on the environment.

Result

That a letter be sent, from the Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation, to Lee Waters MS (Deputy Minister for Climate Change) to enquire as to the assessment made of the impact of the bus driver shortage and how the issues would be addressed.
