Course aims and objectives

The course is designed to strengthen practitioner confidence and consistency in assessing the risk of significant harm to children through a structured, evidence-informed approach.

The training aims to enhance decision-making around thresholds for significant harm, embed a consistent analytical framework across Children’s Services, and support reflective practice and supervision using the Risk 2 model.

Participants will be introduced to Risk 2 templates and their practical application, while developing skills in evaluating parental capacity, child vulnerability, and potential harm. The course will also explore the use of the model in pre-birth assessments and complex safeguarding scenarios.

These sessions can either be attended as part of mandatory training for specific practitioners or used as a refresher
