Conwy County Borough Council is proud to announce the launch of a new initiative aimed at improving the management of open spaces and tackling environmental offences through enhanced CCTV services.
Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), the project has deployed a bank of mobile CCTV cameras across key locations in the county to deter fly tipping, vandalism, and anti-social behaviour.
The initiative, titled “Better Open Spaces Management, Education and Environmental Protections through CCTV Service Enhancement”, has also seen the recruitment of dedicated staff to monitor footage and engage directly with communities through education and enforcement.
“I’m really excited we have been able to draw this funding to enable us to tackle the issues right at the heart of our communities,” said Cllr Stephen Price, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regulatory and Audit. “The team are also using this time to focus on the commercialisation of the CCTV Service in order to protect it in future years.”
Early deployment of the mobile cameras has already shown promising results, with a significant reduction in fly tipping at monitored sites. The transition year funding will allow the Council to maintain momentum by supporting existing CCTV operators and expanding the team to ensure full coverage and maximum impact.
In addition to enforcement, the initiative places strong emphasis on education and community engagement. Public Protection Enforcement Officers will continue to investigate environmental offences and maintain the camera infrastructure, ensuring long-term sustainability and public safety.
