Councillors to discuss Visitor Levy
Visitor Levy
The Visitor Levy is on the agenda for discussion by Conwy Councillors this month.
Feedback from the statutory consultation that took place earlier this summer will be presented to the Economy and Place Scrutiny Committee on 9 September and then to Full Council on 24 September.
The report will also include assessments and data, and will recommend that councillors agree to defer introducing a Visitor Levy until there is further evidence and experience to inform a decision.
Cllr Sharon Doleman, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy and Communications, said: “We know there’s considerable interest in the Visitor Levy because tourism is hugely important to Conwy's economy and communities. Councillors will now have the opportunity to consider the report, supporting evidence and recommendation before reaching a decision.”

Background:
In 2024, the Welsh Government published the Visitor Accommodation (Register and Levy) Etc. (Wales) Bill. The Bill was approved by Senedd Cymru on 8 July 2025 and received Royal Assent on 18 September 2025.
The Bill gives local authorities the choice to introduce a levy on overnight stays in visitor accommodation.
Carrying out a consultation is part of the process and must be done before councillors are asked to decide on whether to introduce a levy or not.
In Conwy, the consultation ran for just over 8 weeks, from 20/05/26 to 17/07/26.
