Conwy’s Cabinet has agreed to move to the next stage of the closure process for Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan and Ysgol Betws y Coed.
Under the Welsh Government’s School Organisation Code there is a procedure to follow when considering school closures. The process starts with a formal consultation, which took place from December 2025 to January 2026.
The outcomes of the two consultations were presented to the Education and Skills Scrutiny Committee and Cabinet earlier this month.
Cabinet voted to proceed to the next stage of the statutory process by issuing Statutory Notices in respect of the proposed closures of Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan and Ysgol Betws y Coed.
The Statutory Notices have been published in line with the School Organisation Code. This starts the statutory notice period (28 days) during which formal objections or representations can be submitted.
Ysgol Betws-y-Coed: Proposal to close Ysgol Betws y Coed - Statutory Notice
Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan: Proposal to close Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan - Statutory Notice
Once the notice period has concluded, all representations will be considered before a final determination is made by Conwy’s Cabinet.
