From House to Home: New Voucher Scheme Offers a Helping Hand

Croeso Adref Welcome Home

The Choose to Reuse shops stock such a wide range of quality and affordable household goods

A new scheme aimed at helping people settle into their new homes has been launched in Conwy. The “Welcome Home” initiative will provide residents who are moving on from homelessness with a voucher to purchase household items.

The vouchers can be used at Bryson Recycling’s Choose to Reuse shops at Mochdre and Rhyl Household Recycling Centres, where a wide range of quality, affordable pre-loved household goods are available. From practical kitchen essentials to decorative items that add a personal touch, the scheme is designed to help transform a house into a home.

Bryson Recycling, a social enterprise delivering waste management services on behalf of Conwy County Borough Council, operates two household recycling centres in Conwy — at Mochdre and Abergele. Reusable items brought to the centres are rescued before going to waste then offered through their Choose to Reuse shops for a great price, helping to reduce waste while generating income for community and charitable initiatives. Bryson has donated £5000 worth of vouchers to be given out by the Council.

Gareth Walsh, Head of Regional Operations at Bryson Recycling said:

“We are proud to be working alongside Conwy County Borough Council to deliver the Welcome Home scheme. When you Choose to Reuse with us, you help us make a difference within the local communities we operate. By giving reusable items a second chance we can support residents at a crucial time while also reducing waste and building a more sustainable society.”

Councillor Mike Priestley, Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads and Infrastructure at Conwy County Borough Council, added:

“Moving into a new home after experiencing homelessness is a significant milestone, but it can also be a challenging time financially. The Welcome Home scheme provides practical support to help residents settle in with dignity and comfort. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Bryson Recycling to deliver a scheme that not only supports people but also promotes reuse and sustainability.”

Richard Bartram, Housing Partnership Manager at Conwy County Borough Council said:

“It’s exciting to work collaboratively with our colleagues in Environmental, Roads & Facilities and Bryson Recycling on such an important and rewarding scheme.

“For many households, experiencing homelessness is an incredibly difficult time, even more so for families with children. When we support a household in relieving them of their homelessness, it’s a key time, so this scheme allows us to help them turn their new house into their new home.

“Homelessness should be rare, brief and unrepeated and collaborative schemes like this, go a long way towards achieving this in Conwy.”

The Choose to Reuse shops stock such a wide range of quality and affordable household goods, including essential items like kitchenware, quality pre-loved toys for children of all ages, to beautiful decorative items like mirrors and pictures.

Councillor Stephen Price, Cabinet Member for Housing, Planning, Audit and Regulatory Services, added:

“This is a fantastic and most welcomed initiative by Bryson Recycling which will help those who are moving or moved into a new home after experiencing homelessness. The challenges and expense of a new home are often overlooked, and this initiative goes some way in providing valuable support and assistance.”
