Green Dragon Standards

Conwy County Borough Council has retained Level 5 Green Dragon Environmental Standard certification for the twelfth consecutive year. 

The Green Dragon Environmental Standard is unique to Wales and is designed to promote good environmental management and to help organisations manage their activities in a way that impacts positively upon the environment. 

Retaining the accreditation demonstrates that Conwy County Borough Council has been recognised nationally for their commitment to looking after the environment and continuing to effectively manage their environmental impacts.

During the assessment, the Council was commended for its strong understanding of environmental legal requirements and for linking their Corporate Plan, service plans, and their net zero programme. This demonstrates that environmental management is firmly embedded in the Council’s business strategy. Assessors also highlighted staff enthusiasm and their commitment to reducing the environmental impact of Council activities.

Rhun ap Gareth, Chief Executive, Conwy County Borough Council, said, “Very few organisations of Conwy’s size and complexity hold the Level 5 accreditation across their entire business, so we’re proud to maintain this accolade. 

“It reflects our ongoing commitment to environmental improvement and our ambition to reach net zero by 2030, a key focus of our 2022–2027 corporate plan.

“The standard continues to bring real benefits to our organisation, from greater energy efficiency to reduced carbon emissions and stronger environmental performance.

“This achievement also shows how we’re integrating good environmental practice into everyday work to help protect Conwy’s natural environment now and for the future.”

There are five levels within the Green Dragon Standard. Each level covers key elements of planning, taking action, checking progress and reviewing achievements to produce continual environmental improvement.
