Kinmel Bay beach and car park to re-open for the summer

The Kinmel Bay flood defence scheme
Kinmel Bay beach and St Asaph Avenue car park will re-open during the summer period
Construction work on Kinmel Bay coastal defence scheme will be paused during the summer period to allow full access to the beach and car park.
During the work so far:
- 38,500 tonnes of rock from North Wales quarries placed as rock armour to upgrade sea defences
- 95% of the existing seawall has been raised with pre-cast concrete units along the 2km of promenade
- approximately 90% of the western rock revetment has been completed in front of Golden Sands Caravan Park
- approximately 12% of the eastern rock revetment has been completed in front of Sunnyvale caravan Park
- 4 new stepped access point structures over the seawall have been completed
- 2 new stepped access point structures with fully accessible ramps have been completed
- handrail installation is progressing on all the newly completed access point structures
- the western parklet area has been completed and is awaiting street furniture installation
The work is currently ahead of schedule, so pausing work over the summer should have no impact on scheme duration. The Kinmel Bay Flood Defence scheme is still scheduled to finish in Spring 2026 as originally planned. The pause will also allow our contractors to focus on harvesting rock supply from North Wales quarries before returning to site in Autumn.
