All-Weather Pitch at Ysgol y Creuddyn
Work has been completed on the new all-weather Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP) and changing pavilion at Ysgol y Creuddyn, providing high-quality sports facilities for both pupils and the wider Penrhyn Bay community.
Today (11/09/26) Conwy County Borough Council’s Education Service formally opened the new facility.
Cllr. Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “I’d like to thank Welsh Government, Cymru Football Foundation (CFF) and Sport Wales for their support. This is an investment in improving access to sport and physical activity for both Ysgol y Creuddyn and the wider Penrhyn Bay community.”
“The new all-weather pitch will ensure pupils and local clubs can enjoy reliable, high-quality facilities throughout the year, supporting health, wellbeing and community cohesion now and for many years to come.”
The £1.98 million development has been funded through Welsh Government’s Community Focused Schools initiative, alongside grants from Cymru Football Foundation (CFF) and Sport Wales.
Welsh Government Cabinet Minister for Education and Welsh Language, Anna Brychan said: “Schools are at the heart of their communities and the new pavilion and all-weather pitch will create an important space that brings people together beyond the school day, whilst supporting health and wellbeing. This investment is an excellent example of how schools can become community hubs that benefit learners, families and the local community.”
Aled Lewis, Director at the Cymru Football Foundation said: “We’re delighted that the facility at Ysgol Y Creuddyn is now open and will provide better experiences for players, coaches and spectators. This project is a perfect example of how collaboration can bring communities across Cymru closer to the game.”
The development features a new floodlit, full-size Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP), providing a high-quality, all-weather facility for sport and physical activity throughout the year.
Complementing the new pitch is a modern modular pavilion designed to support players, officials and the wider community. The pavilion includes two high-quality changing rooms with showers and toilets, a dedicated changing area for match officials, and accessible changing and shower facilities.
Community use is at the heart of the development, with a flexible community room and kitchenette, an accessible toilet with external access, and a dedicated spectator area. The site has also benefited from hard and soft landscaping, creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for everyone using the facility.
During school hours, Ysgol y Creuddyn will manage the pitch for curriculum and extracurricular activities. Outside school hours, Ffit Conwy will be responsible for community bookings and wider public access to both the pitch and pavilion.
