Recognition for Food and Fun Programme in Conwy

Food and Fun awards
Conwy County Borough Council staff who help run summer holiday food and activities sessions in schools have been recognised at a national awards event.
The Food and Fun programme is a Welsh Government funded initiative which is run through the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) in partnership with Local Authorities.
Two staff from Conwy were recognised for their work at the Food and Fun awards held in Cardiff last month (06/11/25).
The programme, which has been running for 10 years, provides a nutritious breakfast and lunch to pupils, along with a range of activities including sport, crafts and gardening. It aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of pupils, encourage healthy eating, and promote physical activity.
In 2025, 12 Conwy County schools took part in the initiative with sessions being run by the Council’s Youth, Engagement and Belonging Service. Around 550 pupils took part in 12 sessions over a 3-week period during the school summer holidays in 2025.
Celia Caldecott, Food and Fun Coordinator, was awarded a Highly Commended for her exceptional coordination across multiple school sites, ensuring safe, engaging, and nutritious provision for children and young people. The Judges at the awards recognised her dedication, strategic oversight, and collaborative approach, which have been instrumental in the programme’s success.
Angharad Williams, who led and delivered the Gogarth Food and Fun provision, received the prestigious Outstanding Contribution Award. Her work at Ysgol y Gogarth supported young people during the summer holidays, combining inclusive enrichment activities with a warm, welcoming environment. Angharad was praised for her leadership and values of care, creativity, and community.
Cyng Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Youth, Engagement and Belonging Service, said, “These awards reflect the passion and professionalism of the whole Education team, and a commitment to tackling holiday hunger, promoting wellbeing, and strengthening community connections in our schools. They also highlight the vital role of youth workers, play workers and catering staff, whose dedication ensures that children and young people are supported, nourished and engaged in safe, inclusive environments.”
