On Thursday May 1st, Llanrwst library came alive with the spirit of Patagonia – a special event that featured rare archival footage of Y Wladfa, the Welsh settlement in Patagonia courtesy of Wales Broadcast Archive.
The celebration was part of a national series of events to honour the rich heritage of Welsh broadcasting, showcasing clips back to the 1950s.
Over 45 attendees also enjoyed a live performance by acclaimed folk artist, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, whose recent S4C programme ‘Gwladfa’ documented the history of Welsh migration to Patagonia.
The audience were treated to interesting discussions and tips on using the Wales Broadcast Archive equipment at Llanrwst library, the Clip Corner. A public access computer station in which audio and video footage of Welsh broadcasting history can be explored free of charge.
The fabulous entertainment was washed down with tasty refreshments supplied by local caterers, Blas ar Fwyd!
Sharon Morgan, interim Section Head: Culture, Libraries and Information for Conwy County Borough Council said: “We’re incredibly proud to host one of Wales’ Clip Corners here at Llanrwst library. It’s a wonderful resource that brings our broadcasting heritage right into the heart of the community. Whether you’re a researcher, a student, or just someone with a love for Welsh culture and history, the Clip Corner gives everyone free access to a treasure trove of television and radio across the decades. Events this this one not only celebrate our past, but also bring our community together to learn, reminisce and connect with our shared story.”
Other Clip Corner locations include Conwy Culture Centre, with the facility located in the County Archive.
We want to thank The National Library of Wales, Wales Broadcast Archive, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, Blas ar Fwyd and the staff at Llanrwst library for their hard work for a brilliant event.
