Who qualifies for a School Uniform Grant/Pupil Development Grant (Access) in the County Boroughof Conwy and what is the criteria?

The Welsh Government provide funding for a Pupil Development Grant (Access) 2018/19 of £125 for pupils entering reception in a primary school, Year 7 in a secondary school or aged 4 or 11 in special schools, special needs resource bases or pupil referral units.

A Pupil Development Grant (Access) is to help purchase a school uniform, equipment, sports kit and kit for activities outside of school for relevant children.

The School Uniform Grant for Years 8 – 11 (Local Education Authority) is £28.

Pupil Development Grant for pupils in Reception and Year 7 will be available from Conwy County Borough Council for parents/guardians whose children attend a school within Conwy County Borough and receive anything from the list below.

School Uniform Grant Years 8 – 11 will only be available from Conwy County Borough Council for pupils who live with their parents/guardian within Conwy County Borough and receive anything from the list below:

  • Income Support*
  • Job Seekers Allowance Income Based*
  • Employment Support Allowance Income Based*
  • Child Tax Credit provided that you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household income, as assessed by HMRC that does not exceed £16,190.
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run on’ – the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • State Pension Credit Guaranteed Element
  • Universal Credit with a net earnings limit of £7,400 April, 2019*

(*Pupils who receive Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance Income Based, Employment Support Allowance Income Related or Universal Credit in their own right are also eligible)

If you are a guardian of looked after children, you do not need to be in receipt of the income stated to receive a Pupil Development Grant (Access) for a child entering Reception or Year 7 and should visit the Education department at:

Grants will be paid by BACS transfer to your bank account or by cheque payment and they may be payable in respect of more than one child.
