Aims and Objectives

Members of a Governing Body should view their main roles as being “to enable and ensure” that the school staff are fully aware of the employer’s responsibilities under Health and Safety Law and that the establishment have formally adopted the Education Visit Policy and that they have a robust system to support the implementation of the policy.

Aim

  • Raise awareness of Governors Responsivities as explained in National Guidance for Educational Visits
  • Raise awareness and understanding of LA Education visits policy and procedures for educational / off site visits and use of the EVOLVE planning, approval and monitoring site.
  • Overview of which visits may require Board of Governors specific approval or involvement as a critical friend
  • Raising awareness of adjudicating parental complaints or dealing with an emergency
  • Overview of charges and remissions for educational visits, meeting legal and employer requirements

Key Learning Outcomes

Governing Bodies and the nominated governor are clear on the importance of well managed educational visits / trips and outdoor activities, and their roles and responsibilities in respect of planning, approving and monitoring educational visits, including access and the use of the EVOLVE site.
