Overview:

This course will increase participants awareness of key themes on LGBT+ including:

coming out
relationships
families
LGBT+ resources, including social and support groups

The course will include an overview of key equalities legislation, explore the barriers faced by LGBT+ communities and provide an opportunity to embed the course themes into practice with Children and Young People.

Overview of the law, duties and responsibilities
Language and definitions

11.15am Break

11.30am Access and Engagement with LGBT+ Communities:

Research on the experiences of LGBT+
Barriers faced by LGBT+ Children & Young People accessing services
Best practice guidelines to support staff to improve the experience of LGBT+ people

12.30pm Lunch Break

1.00pm Transgender Awareness:

Working with Trans Children & Young People
Legal, social, cultural, medical and historical perspectives on being Trans

2.00pm Family and relationships:

Making referrals

2.30pm Evaluations & Close
