Update May 2022

Conwy County Borough Council have started making the Welsh Government’s £150 Cost of Living Support Scheme payments to residents. Over 24,000 payments have been processed and eligible residents who pay Council Tax by Direct Debit will start receiving the payments week commencing 23/05/2022.

If a payment is made and information subsequently emerges to show that a recipient is not eligible for that payment, Conwy County Borough Council, acting on behalf of the Welsh Government, may require repayment in full.

For those who don’t pay Council Tax via Direct Debit, the Council anticipates providing a method for them to receive their payment in June.

The payment is being made to residents with properties in Council Tax bands A-D and also to those who were receiving support through the Council Tax Reduction Scheme on 15 February 2022, regardless of the valuation band of the property.

We understand that people in Wales are facing very real cost-of-living crisis. Further information will be published online in due course. In the meantime, please bear with us while we focus on making the appropriate arrangements.

If you pay by direct debit your payment will be made without the need to complete a registration form. To setup a direct debit, please visit www.conwy.gov.uk/counciltax.

We strongly encourage you to set up this efficient way to pay your Council Tax and receive the Cost of Living payment of £150.

Alternative arrangements will be made in due course for those who do not pay by direct debit, once confirmed we’ll update this page.

Background

On 15 February 2022, the Welsh Government announced that a £150 cost-of-living support payment will be provided to:

  • all households who live in properties in council tax bands A-D; and
  • all households who are recipients of the Council Tax Reduction Scheme - who live in properties in council tax bands (A-I).

A Discretionary Scheme will also be established to help support other households who may be struggling but do not fit in the above criteria.

If additional information is needed, eligible households may need to complete a short registration form.

Be mindful of emails or texts from suspicious sources offering information on the scheme. It's often a scammer trying to steal your information.
