The Situation in Conwy

Summary (optional)
start content

At any one time, there are in excess of 1600 homes in Conwy county which have been empty for 6 months or more. Many of these homes are in good condition and only remain empty while their owner decides what next to do with them. However, others are in poor condition or remain empty for longer periods of time, and properties such as these can have a negative effect on neighbouring properties, both visually and in terms of property values.

An official estimate suggests that an empty home costs its owner somewhere in the region of £135 a week (or £7018 a year), when you consider loss of rental income, together with the costs associated with deterioration, vandalism, insurance and the payment of Council Tax.

Conwy’s Empty Homes Scheme has been in place since 2008, and there is a dedicated officer to help tackle the issues that empty homes can sometimes present. The following information and links provide information on how you can report an empty home, or who to contact if you own an empty home and wish to discuss options for it.
