Conwy County Borough Council has signed up to the Placemaking Wales Charter, strengthening our commitment to creating and maintaining places that are healthy, sustainable and enjoyable for people to live, work and visit.
Placemaking is about thinking carefully about how our towns, villages, streets, parks and public spaces are designed, managed and improved so that they meet the needs of our communities now and in the future. It's about creating places that support people's wellbeing, local businesses, the environment and community life.
The Charter sets out six principles that help organisations create high quality places:
- People and community: putting local needs, aspirations, health and wellbeing first.
- Location: making the best use of land and strengthening existing communities.
- Movement: prioritising walking, cycling and public transport.
- Mix of uses: providing access to homes, jobs, services and facilities.
- Public realm: creating welcoming, safe and inclusive public spaces.
- Identity: respecting and enhancing the unique character of places.
These principles also support our wider responsibilities under the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act and help us think about the long-term impact of our decisions.
