The Canolfan Ffordd Douglas Project was set up as part of Conwy County Borough Council's commitment to provide help at an earlier point for families in their own community.

The project’s aim was to redevelop the old school on Douglas Road, and create a Family Centre and outdoor play space in their place, giving Colwyn Bay and the surrounding communities a new centre with amazing facilities. In addition to this, the project created a new home for the Central Family Support Team and Flying Start Health team and Childcare officers. They were previously based in an office which the public were not able to visit and using a shared porta-cabin, limiting the work they were able to do within the local community.

This  multi-agency community hub will provide:

  • Play groups, family activities, youth activities, and group activities (led by family workers and volunteers)
  • Parenting courses and family learning;
  • Support from a Family Worker;
  • Services from public and third sector agencies supporting families (such as domestic abuse services, welfare rights, family counselling, youth services, etc.)

The project was made possible by funding from Conwy Council, Welsh Government's Integrated Care Fund through Health and Welsh Government's Flying Start Capital Grant.
