Maintaining Activities for Older Adults

Our health and care services are facing significant challenges during this pandemic which means it is crucial that we support the efficient discharge of patients.   We would like to set out the advice we are giving to Care Homes and recommend a standard approach across North Wales to best protect patients, staff, and the wider public.  As National advice changes we will work to ensure that you are kept up to date.

  • All residents in Care Homes should be managed in line with the advice provided by Public Health Wales.
  • If a patient is asymptomatic, they can be safely transferred to the Care Home without additional precautions or further assessment.
  • If a resident becomes symptomatic they will be cared for in line with infection prevention and control arrangements determined by Public Health Wales guidance.  Home testing for symptomatic patients in care homes will commence on 19th March 2020.  If a patient becomes unwell with a high temperature and/or a new continuous cough please contact 111 in the first instance, who will provide advice and guidance.
  • An existing Care Home resident who has required a period of hospitalisation should return to the Home as soon as is clinically appropriate.
  • Family/Social contact should be facilitated by telephone/skype/social media where possible to keep visitors to the Care Home to a minimum. Please provide guidance to family and friends.
  • Please also see Conwy’s latest guidance with regard to DOLS.
