Course aims and objectives
This course will raise awareness and understanding of dementia and provide an overview of other conditions, including autism, Down's syndrome, learning disabilities and mental health.
Participants will explore what it means to be vulnerable and how cognitive difficulties can affect a person's ability to understand information, communicate and make decisions. The course will equip delegates with practical knowledge and techniques that can be applied in day-to-day interactions to help ensure people receive a positive and supportive experience.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Increase their awareness of common cognitive difficulties, including learning disabilities, autism, Down's syndrome and mental health.
- Understand how cognitive difficulties may affect a person's capacity to make decisions.
- Use practical techniques to support positive engagement with people who have cognitive difficulties.
- Communicate more effectively with people who may have cognitive difficulties.
