Course aims and objectives

This short course isn’t about therapy or addressing underlying causes but will equip participants with some simple techniques to help those you work with manage their anxiety so that they are more able to achieve their goals.

As amazing as the human brain is, it’s still unable to tell the difference between a real danger that’s happening outside of the person and a frightening thought. The lower brain stem senses threat, starts a series of physiological responses and we start to feel fear.

Anxiety comes to us all at times but for some, it is more constant, more severe and affects their daily lives.

Course content:

  • Understand why anxiety is so prevalent amongst your client group
  • Learn about the neurophysiology of anxiety
  • Have an overview of contemporary top-down, bottom-up approaches to managing anxiety
  • See how avoidance helps anxiety grow
  • Have some cognitive approaches to help people with their thoughts
  • Have some body based approaches to help people self soothe
  • Be able to help clients build their own emotional first aid kit
