Support and training available for prospective candidates

Ahead of next year’s local elections, Conwy County Borough Council is raising awareness and providing information about becoming a councillor.

It’s important that councillors reflect the values and needs of the people who elect them, so that they can represent all the different views in the community and take decisions for the common good.

If you’re interested in making a difference and becoming a councillor, you can find advice and information on Conwy’s website at Become a Councillor - Conwy County Borough Council

For the 2027 Local Government elections, there’s also support and training for women to stand for election at Elect Her

Candidates from ethnic minorities can access support and training through Race Equality First

Disability Wales has published the Access to Politics Toolkit a practical resource for disabled people interested in entering and navigating political life.

Disabled candidates can also access financial support through the Access to Elected Office Fund managed by Disability Wales. This includes funding for British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, personal assistants, accessible transport, and assistive technology.

Being a councillor is a varied and fulfilling role, offering the opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives. Councillors work with local residents, community groups, businesses and other organisations to represent their communities and help shape decisions about local services and issues that matter to them.

Conwy County Borough Council is made up of 55 councillors elected by the public. The next local government elections across Wales will take place in May 2027.
